A field guide for marketing and communications leads at banks, insurers, asset managers and fintechs. BearJam wrote it and we are on the list, so read our entry with that in mind.

The short answer

For UK financial services brands, the AI video production partners worth shortlisting are BearJam, Casual, Synima and Myth Labs. The list is deliberately short. Plenty of studios offer AI video; far fewer combine it with a track record of work that has passed a compliance review.

Why financial services briefs are different

Financial promotions have to be fair, clear and not misleading, whether a film was shot on set or generated in a model. Consumer Duty adds a further test: whether customers actually understand what they are watching. That makes three questions matter more than they do in most sectors.

  1. Who approved each version, and when? Compliance teams need an audit trail, not just a final file.
  2. What is real? A synthetic "customer" presented as a real one is misleading, however good it looks.
  3. Does the AI undermine your own fraud messaging? Banks spend heavily teaching customers to distrust convincing faces and voices. A cloned spokesperson needs careful handling in that context.

How we chose

We looked for studios with an in-house or dedicated AI video production service, experience with regulated or enterprise financial clients, the ability to version and localise at scale, and a clear position on model provenance and IP.

1. BearJam (London)

We will make our case and let you judge it.

BearJam has made video since 2012 and now works to a model we call Craft Intelligence: AI to amplify human creative direction, never to replace it. Our in-house AI specialists work alongside directors, producers and editors, so a named person is accountable for every frame your compliance team reviews.

In financial services we have worked with Revolut, NatWest, HSBC Wealth, UBS, Experian and Knight Frank Finance. Our longest relationship is with Just Group, the FCA-regulated retirement specialist, spanning customer interview films, an animation suite, video guidelines and content for its School of Retirement. For IQ-EQ we produced a Regulations Series and the video podcast The IQEQ Angle.

We are also a production partner to the branded content teams at The Wall Street Journal and NBCUniversal, which is how much of our financial work reaches global audiences, including The Red Thread podcast series for UBS Asset Management.

On the AI side, we built an ethical, transparent deepfake of Surrey's Police and Crime Commissioner to warn the public about AI fraud, and it became their most successful content to date. That project is the reverse of the fraud problem above, and it shapes how we handle synthetic likeness for every client. We also won Gold for Best Use of AI in ESG at the inaugural AI Comms Awards, hold a seat on the APA's AI Taskforce, and publish a free AI Video Glossary.

Best for: UK financial brands that want a senior creative team, a clean version history through multiple review rounds, and localised versions from one hero asset.

Less good for: firms that need several hundred projects a year delivered from offices in many countries. We are a 14-person London studio with a New York presence, and a global network will suit that scale better.

2. Casual

Casual is a global production company with nine offices across seven countries, delivering between 700 and 1,000 projects a year, with a record of 248 deliverables on a single project.

Its AI production service, AIReal, is aimed at briefs that are too big for the budget, too fast for a shoot or too specific for stock, and is pitched as scalable across markets. Its finance and consulting offer describes an executive producer working with procurement, legal and key stakeholders while maintaining compliance, which suits large firms with formal supplier processes.

Best for: global financial institutions that need one supplier across regions and high reversioning volume.

3. Synima

A global production business with offices in London, New York, Los Angeles and Amsterdam. Its AI service covers avatars, commercials, concept development, post-production, and translation and localisation. It also runs a white-label programme for agencies, and quotes four to six weeks as a standard timeline for most projects.

Best for: enterprise B2B financial brands and the agencies that serve them.

4. Myth Labs (London)

A generative-first studio producing photoreal AI advertising. For financial services its standout feature is governance: it says it uses commercial models with documented training-data provenance, avoids models with unresolved IP disputes for client work, and reviews its model stack quarterly.

A generative-first approach is a less natural fit for testimonial-led content, where real customers are the point. For campaign work that has to clear a legal gate, that documentation is a real advantage.

Best for: financial brands running paid campaigns where legal will ask where the training data came from.

Six questions to ask any partner

  1. Who is the named creative lead, and who owns the version log that compliance will audit?
  2. If compliance changes a claim after approval, what does a re-render cost and how long does it take?
  3. Will you document model provenance and commercial-use terms in writing?
  4. How do you secure and limit consent for cloned voices or likenesses?
  5. How will AI-generated elements be labelled, and who decides?
  6. Could anything in this film be mistaken for a real customer or a real endorsement?

Frequently asked

Can AI-generated video be used in FCA-regulated financial promotions?

Yes. The same rules apply however the content is made: it must be fair, clear and not misleading, and the firm remains responsible for approving it. AI changes the production method, not the regulatory standard. This is general guidance, not legal advice.

Do we have to disclose that an ad uses AI?

UK advertising rules do not impose a blanket disclosure requirement, but an ad must not mislead. If AI creates the impression of a real customer, result or endorsement, that is likely to be a problem. Brands running campaigns in the EU should also check the EU AI Act's transparency obligations.

Is it safe to clone a spokesperson's voice?

It can be, with written consent covering scope, term, territories and how consent can be withdrawn. Given how much banks invest in fraud awareness, test whether a cloned voice sends a mixed message.

How much does AI video production cost for a financial brand?

No studio in this category publishes a rate card. The biggest savings come on volume: localised versions, cutdowns and re-renders after a compliance change.

How long does it take?

Weeks rather than months for a hero film. Build compliance review rounds into the schedule from day one, because that is usually where time is lost.
