BearJam Vlog – September Roundup: McDonald’s with Harry Redknapp, UGC, Animation, and a Devon Drone Shot (of course)
September was a very busy month at BearJam HQ — packed with early starts, green screen challenges, user-generated content, animation builds, socially distanced crews, and a very scenic bit of Devon drone filming. In short, a little bit of everything.
🎬 Watch the vlog for all the behind-the-scenes moments — including Siri vs. Harry Redknapp, a McNugget moment with Myleene Klass, and a sleek electric car shoot for Osprey.
McDonald’s x Harry Redknapp – Siri, Breakfast & Post-Production Trickery
We kicked things off with a dawn shoot in Bournemouth, filming the legendary Harry Redknapp and his dogs for a McDonald’s campaign via Ready10. The aim? Demonstrate how simple it is to order using Siri and the My McDonald’s App.
We shot two styles: a behind-the-scenes, doc-style approach, and a more polished piece-to-camera where Harry chats to the viewer — and the director — while struggling with tech but nailing his Big Mac order.
One challenge: it was still breakfast hours, and he was ordering lunch. So we used green screen compositing to recreate the phone screen and app interaction — proving once again that a bit of clever post goes a long way.
McDonald’s x Myleene Klass – UGC Meets Influencer-Style Storytelling
Our next McDonald’s project (also with Ready10) focused on thanking parents for everything they’ve done during lockdown. We leaned into a UGC video style, putting out a casting call with filming guidelines and receiving tons of lovely clips.
To elevate the campaign, we also filmed a segment with Myleene Klass and her daughter Hero at a McDonald’s drive-thru — keeping it in line with the UGC tone by shooting on a mirrorless camera for that authentic selfie/story vibe. Just me, a soundie, and a nugget of love.
Animation for World Rabies Day – Mixed Media, Engaging Message
Next up was something completely different: a mixed media animation for World Rabies Day. Our brief was to create a clear, engaging explainer that could quickly communicate the risks of rabies and what to do after potential exposure.
Having delivered a number of animated explainers in lockdown, it was refreshing to work in a totally new style. We combined illustration, typography, and motion graphics for a piece that’s equal parts informative and creatively engaging.
HardSoft – Stock-Footage YouTube Ads (No Filming Required)
HardSoft, a tech leasing company, needed a series of YouTube video ads — including 6-second bumpers, 30-second in-streams, and discovery ads.
We handled scripting, VO recording, and edit, building the entire suite using licensed stock footage and motion text — a cost-effective, covid-friendly solution that still delivered clarity and polish. A good reminder that video production doesn’t always require a shoot to be effective.
Halifax – Closed Set, Live Feed, and Covid-Safe Production
While we can’t share much (yet!), we also filmed an in-branch shoot for Halifax, working with actors, real staff, and a closed retail location. Everything was done with a minimal, masked-up crew, following strict health protocols.
We also ran a live video feed to the client, enabling remote monitoring and real-time feedback — an approach that’s become second nature for us in the new hybrid production world.
Osprey Rebrand – Storytelling with Charging Stations
Formerly known as AndJemmy, Osprey needed a brand launch video to introduce their new name and identity. We wrote a warm, narrative-led concept featuring a father and daughter on an electric road trip — using the Osprey app to charge, navigate, and manage their journey.
Multiple shoot locations, a lean crew, a flying drone, and a remote production office (thanks Sunny!) all came together smoothly, with some glorious weather to match. We topped it off with on-screen motion graphics and a colour grade to bring the brand story to life.
Devon Drone Shot (Because of Course)
And yes — I did manage to sneak in a holiday. Naturally, I took the drone. Naturally, I filmed a beach sequence. Naturally, it made the vlog.
Final Note: Free Shoots Still on Offer
As we said last month — our Shoot Out to Help Out offer still stands. If you’re a business looking to dip your toes into video (or do more of it), we’re offering free video shoots to help get you started.
👉 Get in touch here if that sounds like you — or someone you know.
