Ian Sciacaluga was born in Gibraltar. A Super Eight enthusiast, he enlisted at the London International Film School and graduated with a distinction in art direction, thanks to his written and directed short drama, “The Rise and Fall of Richard Parsons”. Thereafter, he began working in the art department on a string of made-for-tv-movie, for Cinema Verité (“Sam Saturday”) and HBO Television (“Supergun”) before transferring to directing short documentaries for Anglia Television. The most notable film was “Millennium Kids” – a documentary diary about disadvantaged children on the cusp of adulthood.
Ian has directed over 30 shows of the Lonely Planet/Globe-Trekker, World Café, Treks in a Wild World and Planet Food series for the Discovery Channel, Voyage and PBS (Pilot Productions 1999 – present), while simultaneously embarking on a very successful advertising career. He became a finalist at the Cannes New Directors Advertising Awards with a ‘Pampers’ commercial featuring a flatulent baby and he has continued to direct high end commercials for UK television. His credits include directing TV and cinema spots for McDonalds, Freeserve, Dove, BT, Kellogg’s, NatWest, Heinz, Bold, Macmillan and for the public sector union, Unison.
