Introducing the third of MEET the TEAM
The ball is rolling…
Welcome to a day in Rabia’s life here at BearJam. Plug in, grab an energy boost, and settle in.
Let’s dive in…
Let me introduce you to Rabia
" I, a poor night owl, will be waking up at 6 am with the help of 5 alarms.
Excessive…sure, but it works!
I grab what I need and water the army of plants on my way out.
3 trains +1 ½ musical playlist later and I’ve reached work on time!
Now, from here, my day could be drastically different depending on the status of the projects I’m on.
- Starting a new project, I’ll speak to the creative lead and producer to get a brief.
- Midway through a project, I’ll just pick it back up.
- Waiting for feedback from the team or client, I’ll move on to other projects.
- On set, either to DIT or edit or both!
So if I’m on a new project as the editor, I’ll need to proxy, sync and make selects of the footage. Selects is where you go through all the footage and pick out all the usable bits. Afterwards, I’ll organise everything in different sequences. I then grab either the VO or the interview that is leading the edit, and then pick a music track so when I lay down the b-roll, it saves time with timings.
As I am adding b-roll, I also add any graphics that are needed. Once the first pass is done, I will usually do a quick grade, as I usually do a complete grade at the end. When this is done, it goes through internal reviews till we are happy with it, and then it’s off to the clients!
However, I can be on a ‘new’ project for me as the colourist! That means I’m brought in when the edit has had the content signed off, and I can colour grade the edit. I usually have a pass at it on my own and then bring the creative to review it. Once we are happy with it, it goes back to the editor to be exported and sent to the client.
If I’m doing neither of these, I could be on set as the DIT! That means I am the person transferring the footage from the camera cards to our hard drives, so the crew can reuse those cards for the shoot and so the editors can work off the hard drives.
Ah! Not to forget, I do have lunch!
Though I do spend most of my lunch going for a walk, just to see if there is anything new or interesting in the area.
Just before the end of the day, there might be a building social put on by The Gatehouse team!
This most recent was a Sip Social with Aperol Spritz (turns out, it’s not to my taste) and an Italian platter (yum!)!
Once the day is done, it’s home time!
Back to listening to music as I head home, I either pick back up where I left off in the morning, or I start it over again.
I pretty much listen to the same tracks over and over again till I’m bored.
Off I go while thinking of the games I’ll be playing once I reach home!"
