Introducing the first of MEET the TEAM

Okay, to kick things off at BearJam…
Let me introduce you to Jakob

This is a day in the life of what it's like for Jakob here at BearJam. So dial in, stay tuned, grab a coffee, and get comfy.

Here we go…

“Alarm goes off at 7am. I have just enough time to make a coffee, pack my lunch and shower, before catching the train at 8.

Woo - I've made it to the office for 9!

If I'm mid-way through a project I'll maybe be waiting for feedback from the producer or client. But if an edit still sits with me, I'll pick up where I left off the day before.

If I'm starting a project from scratch, I'll have a chat with the creative lead or producer, where we'll go over the brief and project timeline.

Then, once I'm all set up, proxied and had my second coffee - it's time to go through all the rushes! Yep, there's no pretty way of putting it, I literally have to go through all the footage. From there I can begin to organise and piece together sequences in my mind. If the project is interview or voiceover lead, I'll lay this down first, which will function as my base content which'll then dictate where the b-roll goes.

Oh, hello - the wonderful team at The Gatehouse have put on a social! Maybe it's pancakes, maybe it's yogurt bowls, or maybe cocktails. I grab a bite and a sip and recoup before getting stuck back in.

Now, many editors differ at this point in a project, but I personally like to look for music fairly early on. Laying out music helps set the overall pacing of an edit and will give a clearer picture (and tone) to be working towards. Searching for the right music can take a long time too, so it's nice to get this out of the way.

Lunch time rolls around. Spring is in the air. I take my sandwich to the park.

Post-lunch I really roll my sleeves up.

Once I feel I have a solid V1, I'll share it with the team for review. Then, once we're all happy and think it's client ready, we'll send it off. Depending on the agreed schedule, we may hear back the next day. But at BearJam we've always got other fun and exciting projects on the go, so in the interim, I'll have something else to jump on to.

Day done. Time to put my headphones on and catch the train. What am I currently listening to? The new Perfume Genius album.”

If you liked this then stay tuned for the next “meet the team” …
